The “Rohingya” is one of the two major indigenous peoples of Arakan. They are one of the many ethnic nationalities of the Union of Burma. The people of Burma have long been under tyrannical rule of the military dictatorship. Since independence, due to growing Burmanisation, assimilation and militarism, the country has been infested with civil war continuing till to day. The Rohingyas of Arakan are the worst victims of human rights violations, large-scale persecution and genocide. Nearly half of their population has been expelled from the country. Those who are still at home are in a state of jeopardy counting their days in utmost miseries. The military regime has denied them even their citizenship. Today they are in danger of total extinction. |
